To check your credit score you can use any of the three licensed credit reference bureaus in Kenya; Credit Reference Bureau Africa (TransUnion), Metropol CRB or Creditinfo CRB.

Checking Credit Score through Credit Reference Bureau Africa (TransUnion)

You will have to register by either downloading their app or sending an SMS to 21272 at a cost of Ksh50. It is best to go through this process using their app because using the SMS service may cost you way more than the Ksh50 initial registration cost.

Once you register you will be represented by additional menu which each cost about Ksh15 to Ksh20 to allow you to proceed to the next screen.

Once you complete the registration process you can request your Credit Score file which will be emailed to you protected by a password, usually your National ID number.

Credit Reference Bureau Africa (TransUnion) also offers “clearance certificates” at a cost of about Kshs 2,200

Checking Credit Score through Metropol Credit Reference Bureau

You can get one “free credit report” from Metropol Credit Reference Bureau by dialing *433# through it may still end up costing you Kshs 100 through M-Pesa.

Checking Credit Score through Creditinfo CRB Kenya

Getting your credit report through Creditinfo CRB Kenya is done by using their website. Enter your name, ID, email, phone number and that redirects you to a sign in with a Kshs 50 charge request. Your PDF credit report file will be sent within 5 minutes detailing your score, risk classification and the number of credit queries made on your name in the past 12 months.

Hope this helps.
